App Rejection Fix Pack · Guide

What does an App Store guideline 2.1 app completeness rejection mean, and what should I check?

Guideline 2.1 means the reviewer could not fully use or test your app, usually because of a crash, a broken flow, placeholder content, dead links or no working demo account for account-based features. The reviewer is testing a final build, so anything unfinished counts. Reproduce what they hit, fix it, give them everything needed to reach every feature, and explain the fix in your reply.

Steps to fix a 2.1 rejection

  1. Read the attachments and crash logs. Check the rejection for screenshots, a device and OS version, or attached crash logs. Symbolicate any crash log against your build and reproduce it on the same OS version if you can.
  2. Test on a clean install. Delete the app, install the exact build you submitted on a real device and walk through first launch with no cached data, no saved session and permissions not yet granted. Many review crashes only show up this way.
  3. Test with reviewer conditions. Try the app on a network the reviewer might use, including IPv6-only networks, which guideline 2.5.5 requires apps to support, which guideline 2.5.5 requires apps to support, and on both iPhone and iPad if the app runs on iPad. Check that your backend and any test servers are live and reachable.
  4. Provide a working demo account. If features need an account, add a demo username and password in the App Review Information section of App Store Connect. Check that it works, does not expire, has sample data and is not blocked by two-factor prompts sent to your own phone.
  5. Remove placeholder content. Search the app and metadata for lorem ipsum, test data, "coming soon" screens, empty tabs and links that go nowhere. Remove or finish them before resubmitting.
  6. Explain anything hard to reach. Use the review notes to explain hardware the app needs, region-limited features, in-app purchases to test or steps to reach a feature. Add a short screen recording link if a flow is not obvious.
  7. Reply with what changed. Upload the fixed build, then reply stating what caused the problem, what you changed and where the reviewer can confirm it.

When a done-for-you pack helps

A done-for-you pack helps when you cannot reproduce what the reviewer saw, or the notice mixes 2.1 with other guidelines. We map each point to the guideline section, list the build, metadata and review-note changes, and draft the reply and a resubmission checklist that you send from your own developer account.

Questions

The app works for me. Why did the reviewer see a crash?

A reviewer may test on a fresh install, a newer OS version or a different network from yours, so crashes tied to cached data, first-launch permission prompts, specific devices or IPv6 networks may not show up in your own testing. Check attached crash logs, test a clean install of the exact submitted build, and confirm your servers were reachable during review.

What should a demo account include?

Give a username and password in App Review Information that reaches every account-based feature, with realistic sample data already loaded. Make sure it does not expire before review finishes and does not trigger a verification code sent to someone else. If some features need special hardware or a paid tier, explain how the reviewer can test them in the review notes.

Should I reply or upload a new build?

If something in the app was broken, upload a fixed build and then reply explaining the fix. If the reviewer simply could not reach a feature, for example because the demo account did not work, you may only need to update App Review Information and reply. Either way, state exactly what changed so the next review can confirm it.
